A Joyful Life

Joyful Life collection is my personal tribute to Singapore.

It is a journey of senses. It illustrates how I learnt to apprehend Singapore richness and variations. It reflects how I evolved in my intimate relationship with the country’s nature and seasonality. Sensing heat and humidity. Tasting a melting pot of flavours. Smelling a world of scents.

Seasons are not about
Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter.
Seasons are about the intimate relationship
with the environment.
Close or distant.
Serene or intense.

Rigid or flexible.
Accepted or suffered.
Rooted in the past or lived in the present.

How aware are you of your season sensors?

Singapore is a tale of harmony between East and West, Tradition and Modernity, Nature and Construction. The artwork depicts this rich duality, the sensible building of environments in respect of Nature.

At the source of this genuine sensitivity is Water, flowing Singapore’s wisdom and abundance. Water is motion, downward and inward, giving birth to magnificent plants and flowers that celebrate the awareness of the inevitability of change.

Bamboo and Lotus are the expression of inner seasonality. The Bamboo emerges quickly and holds simply but strongly, adapting to the surroundings. It bends but never breaks, with resilience. The Lotus is able to emerge from muddy waters un-spoilt and pure, raising peace and universal rebirth. It represents self-awareness and spiritual enlightenment.

I used a combination of water-based mediums, from Chinese ink to watercolour and acrylic. In a wild watery space, Singapore is awakening, merging natural and artificial elements, with authority and power (black) but also in purity and fulfillment (white), with natural harmony (green), joy and good fortune (red). Towards an elevation of spiritual perfection.
